Ferozepur, December 12, 2024: In a remarkable feat of endurance and environmental advocacy, three Punjab-based professionals have excelled in long-distance cycling, promoting health and sustainability.
Cycling is gaining momentum in Punjab as professionals embrace it for fitness and environmental consciousness. Those who have set benchmarks in long-distance cycling are Dr Gurbhay Singh Brar, a homoeopathic practitioner from Guruharsahay; Aman Sharma, a Ferozepur-based printing press entrepreneur; and Dr Akash Aggarwal, an orthopaedic surgeon, collectively crossed over 50,000 kilometres on their bicycles. Their efforts have earned accolades and inspired others to prioritise health and eco-friendly commuting.
These avid cyclists, part of the Hussainiwala Riders group, regularly complete morning rides exceeding 50 kilometres. They have achieved significant milestones, including completing 200 km in 12 hours, 300 km in 20 hours, 400 km in 27 hours, and 600 km in 40 hours, earning the prestigious Super Randonneur (SR) title. Additionally, Dr Brar and Aman Sharma surpassed expectations by completing a 1,000 km ride in just 66 hours, 9 hours ahead of the stipulated time, earning him the Ultra Rider title.
At a simple and impressive ceremony organized by the Hussainiwala Riders, Dr Brar Aman Sharma and Dr Aggarwal were honoured for their exceptional cycling achievements. Both credited their success to their mentor, Sohan Singh Sodhi, whom they described as their guiding force. Engineer Gurmukh Singh, and XEN Navneet Kumar joining in celebrating the riders' accomplishments, reinforced the growing cycling culture in Punjab.
These milestones underscore the transformative power of cycling in fostering physical fitness and reducing fuel-driven pollution, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional transportation.
