HMPV Virus: Punjab Govt on alert, Dr.Balbir Singh advises people to wear mask in public

Chandigarh, January 08, 2025: Amid the cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in all the states of the country, the Government of India had ordered to increase surveillance.
Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh has urged people to wear masks whenever they go outside. No case of this has been reported in Punjab so far.Dr. Balbir Singh informed that the state government is in touch with the Center and is prepared for any situation arising from the spread of the virus.
He has advised people with weak immunity and people above 60 years of age to wear masks in crowded places. The minister further said that this virus is not as serious as corona. It is a mild virus, which causes flu-like symptoms. It is not fatal.
