Chandigarh, March 26, 2026: In a strongly worded letter, Senior Shooter Raninder Singh has responded to recent remarks made by the Punjab Chief Minister regarding him and the sport of shooting.
In his letter, Singh said shooting has been an integral part of his life since the age of 11.
He highlighted that he has represented India in international trap shooting competitions, including the ISSF World Cups held in Cairo and Suhl, Germany, in 2006, and has also participated in several other global events under the International Shooting Sport Federation.
Detailing his achievements at the national level, Singh mentioned that he won a silver medal at the 59th National Shooting Championship (Trap) in Jaipur in 2015. He also pointed out that at the time, he was serving as the President of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
Clarifying his administrative role, Singh stated that he served as NRAI President from December 2010 to April 2023 and is no longer in that position, suggesting that the information presented about him was inaccurate.
He further noted his contributions to the sport internationally, including his tenure as a member of the ISSF Executive Committee from 2014 to 2018 and later as Vice President from 2018 to 2022, adding that these positions were attained through an electoral process.
Singh addressed comments about “shaky hands,” saying he would be open to competing with the Chief Minister once the latter reaches the required competitive standard, and that performance could then be judged through scores.
He concluded the letter by seeking fair recognition for his contributions to the sport, both as an athlete and as an administrator, and stated that he has attached supporting documents and photographs to substantiate his claims.
