Surprising but true. Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has praised his bitter political rival and former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal no ends. Not only this, the Congress CM has also congratulated his predecessor.
The unusual development took place during Amarinder’s visit to Jang-e-Azadi Memorial near Jalandhar on Saturday. He termed the project as world class. The work on its construction was started during the tenure of Badal as the Chief Minister.

Though Amarinder said that he was yet to see the entire memorial building but on the basis of whatever part he was shown around during the visit, he said it was truly of top class quality. “Amritsar’s Military Museum, Virast-e-Khalsa and Jang-e-Azadi Memorial are all world class. For this I congratulate Parkash Singh Badal. He has done a great job,” commented Amarinder.
Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Sidhu, Chief Editor Ajit Group and Chairman Jang-e-Azadi Foundation Barjinder Singh Hamdard and senior civil and police officers and local politicians were also present.
As a journalist, I have been covering political and social activities of Captain Amarinder Singh for about two decades. Ever since he parted ways with Akali Dal and joined the Congress, he has never been heard praising Badal like this. Rather, quite often, he has been highly critical of Badal’s administrative ability and political decision-making in his comments and speeches.

But this is probably the first instance of Amarinder publicly acknowledging Badal’s achievement on administrative front in a clear and direct manner. At least, I have never before heard him saying something like this.
