New Delhi, July 28, 2024: Considered a close confidante of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, retired Gujarat cadre IAS officer K. Kailashnathan has been appointed as the next Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry.
Notably, a 1979-batch IAS officer, popularly known as K.K. in the civil service circles voluntarily retired as Chief Principal Secretary in the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in June this year.
As he resigned from bureaucracy, speculation was rife that Kailashnathan was set to be given a bigger role at the Centre, either as a Governor or Lieutenant Governor or in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Originally from Kerala and a chemistry post-graduate from Madras University, Kailashnathan is a Gujarat cadre officer of the 1979 batch.
