New Delhi, August 25, 2025: If you’re an Android smartphone user, you may have noticed sudden changes in your phone’s dialer (Phone app). Several users have taken to social media asking why their dialer looks different. The good news: this is not a virus or a malfunction but an official Google update.
Google has rolled out a new design called Material 3 Expressive, which it claims is simpler, more modern, and user-friendly. However, not all users are happy and some want the older layout back.
- New Home Tab: Combines “Favorites” and “Recents” into one screen.
- Keypad Placement: The floating dialer button is now fixed at the bottom center.
- Contacts Access: Contacts are hidden under the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
- Incoming Calls: Users can now choose between horizontal swipe or single tap to answer/reject calls.
If you prefer the old design, you can remove the update in two ways:
Method 1: Go to Settings > Apps > Phone > Storage > Clear Cache > Uninstall Updates.
Method 2: Open Google Play Store > Phone by Google > Uninstall Updates. Then restart your phone.
To stop future automatic updates, uncheck Enable auto-update in the Play Store app menu.
