Barnala (Punjab), March 29, 2026: Three labourers were killed after a house collapsed during repair work in Farwahi village of Barnala in the early hours of Sunday, triggering panic and a swift community-led rescue effort.
The incident occurred around 4:15 am when the structure, which was being lifted using jacks as part of ongoing repairs, suddenly gave way and crashed down. The collapse was so sudden that the workers, who were reportedly sleeping inside the house, got trapped under the debris and died on the spot.
According to local sources, the house belonged to a resident identified as Vishal and had been undergoing structural repairs for the past few days. The use of jacks to elevate the building is suspected to have contributed to the incident, though the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed.
The loud sound of the collapse alerted villagers, who rushed to the scene in large numbers. In a notable show of community response, announcements were immediately made from the local Gurudwara Sahib, urging residents to come forward and assist in rescue operations. People gathered quickly and began clearing the debris while informing the authorities.
A CCTV video of the incident has also surfaced, capturing the moment the house collapsed.
Police and administrative officials reached the spot soon after and have initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
