Chandigarh, September 24, 2025: The Punjab Cabinet today approved several major decisions, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced.
A special court will be set up in Mohali to exclusively handle cases related to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The court will be presided over by an Additional Sessions Judge or a Sessions Judge, ensuring speedy disposal of NIA cases linked to Punjab.
In another significant move, the government has decided to recover charges from individuals who have encroached upon government lands, water channels, or pathways. Committees headed by Deputy Commissioners (DCs) will be formed to identify such encroachments, serve notices, and collect payments. Once recovered, the land will be regularized in the name of the encroacher. The funds collected will be shared equally—50% with the state government and 50% with the concerned department that owns the land.
Cheema further highlighted a relief scheme for defaulter sheller owners. Those facing cases or dues will now have an opportunity to revive their businesses by clearing pending amounts under a new scheme and complying with government directives.
More updates awaited.
