Tarn Taran (Punjab), September 12, 2025: Deputy Commissioner Rahul, IAS, has appealed to farmers of Taran Taran district to bring only dry paddy to grain markets during the upcoming procurement season. He said this would help ensure smooth procurement under the Punjab Government’s guidelines and enable timely payment to farmers.
The DC informed that in the previous season, around 9,30,186 metric tonnes of paddy were procured in the district, and a similar figure is expected this year. At present, the district has 60 permanent mandis, with additional sub-mandis to be set up if required.
Highlighting the moisture issue, Rahul said that if the moisture content in paddy exceeds 17 percent, procurement agencies are unable to purchase it, which leads to stockpiling in mandis. He urged commission agents (arhtiyas) to spread awareness among farmers so that procurement can be completed efficiently and on time.
The DC assured that all necessary arrangements, including adequate bardana (gunny bags), clean drinking water, electricity, seating areas, and toilets, are being made in mandis for the convenience of farmers. Procurement agency officials have been instructed to ensure that farmers do not have to wait long to sell their produce.
He added that paddy purchase would be carried out simultaneously with arrivals, and payments to farmers will be cleared within 24 hours.
