Cyber Attack Alert: Punjab Police warns of dangerous malware spreading via Whatsapp, Facebook

Chandigarh, May 12, 2025 –The Punjab Police has issued a high-level cyber alert after uncovering a digital threat allegedly linked to Pakistan. Unlike traditional warfare, this battle is unfolding on smartphone screens across India.
A dangerous malware named "Dance of the Hillary", reportedly created by Pakistan-based hackers, is being rapidly circulated across India through popular platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and email. The malware is specifically targeting ordinary Indian users.
According to the cyber alert issued by Punjab Police, the malware can steal sensitive personal data, banking details, and passwords, and in severe cases, grant hackers full control over a user’s device.

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid clicking on unknown links or messages, especially those received from unfamiliar contacts. “Be cautious and alert. The threat is real, and cyber safety is national security,” the advisory emphasized.
The police have also encouraged users to update their antivirus software and report any suspicious digital activity to cybercrime units immediately.
