Farmer awareness cuts stubble burning in Ferozepur; DC appeals to use modern machinery for wheat sowing
Ferozepur, October 31, 2025: The rising awareness among farmers has led to a sharp decline in stubble burning across the district, and meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Deepshikha Sharma has appealed to the farmers to use modern machinery for wheat sowing.
The teams of the Agriculture Department, under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, are visiting various villages across the district to encourage farmers not to burn paddy stubble and instead prepare their fields for wheat sowing using modern agricultural implements.
As part of this ongoing awareness campaign, teams visited villages including Nizamwala, Baghewala, Sultanwala, and Usmanwala in the Arifke Circle, sensitising farmers about the ill effects of stubble burning. Farmers assured the officials that they would incorporate the paddy residue into the soil and sow wheat accordingly.
Officials noted that awareness among farmers has significantly increased, and incidents of stubble burning have dropped considerably. In Aliwala village, about 70% of farmers have already incorporated stubble into their fields, while others are being motivated to follow suit. In a Malaysian village, teams also guided farmers on sustainable practices for wheat cultivation.
In village Isa Panj Garahi, under Guruharsahai block, farmer Bagicha Singh sowed wheat on his 14-acre land using a Super Seeder purchased under a government subsidy. Similarly, in Dulleke Nathu Wala village, farmer Lakhvir Singh utilised paddy residue as mulch while sowing garlic on one acre of land.
In village Shereenwala Brar, farmer Ram Singh’s 20-acre land was used for baling paddy residue with the help of a Baler provided on subsidy through departmental coordination.
DC emphasised that if any case of stubble burning is reported, officials will immediately reach the spot to control the fire. She appealed to all farmers to refrain from burning stubble and adopt eco-friendly, mechanised farming methods for wheat sowing — a step that will not only enhance soil fertility but also help maintain a cleaner environment.
