Mumbai, February 08, 2026: :
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday emphasised the distinct religious identity of Sikhs while reaffirming the deep-rooted unity between Hindu and Sikh communities.
Speaking at the “100 Years of Sangh: Journey to New Horizons” lecture series during an RSS session in Mumbai, Bhagwat said that Sikhs have their own religious traditions, a clearly defined code of conduct, and a distinct Panth, leaving no doubt about their separate religious identity.
He noted that worship practices may differ and that, as a religion, Sikhism is separate. “This distinctiveness should be acknowledged,” Bhagwat said.
At the same time, the RSS chief highlighted the strong social and cultural bonds between the two communities, stating that Hindus and Sikhs share a relationship of blood, as well as enduring ties of roti-beti (shared meals and marital relations).
Bhagwat cautioned that references to Hindu–Sikh unity should not be misconstrued as suggesting that the two are separate entities. “That would be incorrect, because we are all one,” he said, underlining that recognising Sikh religious identity does not undermine unity but strengthens mutual respect.
His remarks came as part of the RSS’s centenary reflections, focusing on social harmony, cultural continuity, and national integration.
