Language Deptt organises written quizzes to promote Punjabi literature/culture
Ferozepur, October 14, 2025: Under the leadership of Higher Education and Languages Minister Harjot Singh Bains and directives from Director of Language Department Punjab Jaswant Singh Jafir, the District Language Office Ferozepur organised written quiz competitions for students from various classes of government, semi-government, recognised, and private schools and colleges at Vivekanand World Public School, Ferozepur.
District Language Officer Dr Jagdeep Singh Sandhu welcomed the participating students and teachers, commending school principals and educators for preparing them thoroughly. "The current era is one of competition, where success demands navigating tough challenges. The Language Department's core objective is to prepare our students through such events," he stated. These quizzes aim to promote the Punjabi language and literature, fostering creative and aesthetic inclinations among students. Conducted in written format with a one-hour duration, the question papers featured 100 questions on Punjabi language, literature, religion, personalities, culture, history, and geography, carrying a total of 400 marks.
In the middle category Class 'C', first place went to Jasdeep Kaur (Shaheed-e-Azam SHS Mansoordeva), second to Harsimran Kaur (SHS Varda Bhai), and third to Sharndeep Kaur (Guru Nanak Public SSS Shakoor). For secondary classes Category 'A', Gurvinder Singh (SHS Varda Bhai) secured first, Jashandeep Singh (SHS Varda Bhai) second, and Gurmehar Singh (Guru Nanak Public SSS Shakoor) third. In the graduation Category 'B', first position was clinched by Yuvneet (DAV College for Women, Ferozepur), second by Ramandeep Kaur (DAV College for Women, Ferozepur), and third by Komaljot Kaur (Punjabi University Constituent College, Mohkam Khan Wala).
Winners were honoured with cash prizes and certificates by the District Language Office. Top performers from each category will represent at the state-level quizzes. The felicitation ceremony was conducted by District Language Officer Ferozepur and Dolly Bhaskar, Finance Secretary of VWS’s Management Committee.
School Chairman Dr Gaurav Sagar Bhaskar praised the Language Department's initiative, calling the selection of their school a matter of pride. He highlighted the smooth execution coordinated by Ms Shipra, with commendable roles played by Ms Mahima, Shri Gurbhushan Singh, Ms Deepa Masih, Sukhwindar Singh, Ms Nagpal, and staff from the District Language Office, including Clerk Chetan Kumar, Ravi Kumar, and Deepak Kumar.
