Chandigarh, September 8, 2025 – A rare total lunar eclipse, popularly known as the “Blood Moon,” lit up the night sky on September 7-8, captivating skywatchers worldwide. Among them was Manandeep Singh, an eleventh-grade student from Mohali, who skillfully captured the celestial spectacle through his camera lens.
The phenomenon occurred when Earth came between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow across the lunar surface. During the total phase, the Moon glowed in shades of red and orange, a striking sight caused by Earth’s atmosphere filtering sunlight and scattering shorter wavelengths.
Armed with his Canon DSLR, Singh documented the different stages of the eclipse lasting about 82 minutes. He later arranged the photographs into a composite arc, vividly displaying the Moon’s gradual transformation in both color and position. To achieve the clarity in his shots, he relied on a tripod and carefully adjusted camera settings to match the shifting light conditions.
Singh’s photographs not only highlight his technical skills but also reflect his deep interest in astronomy. “I want to continue capturing celestial events, and next I am preparing to photograph the partial solar eclipse on September 21,” he said.
