Chandigarh, March 26, 2026: Punjab and Haryana High Court: The High Court has sought detailed information regarding the payment of dearness allowance (DA) to senior officials, including IAS, IPS, IFS and judicial officers in Punjab, following allegations of discrimination raised by lower-level government employees.
The matter came up before a bench headed by Justice H. S. Brar, which directed the Punjab government to submit an affidavit clarifying the status of DA payments. The court has asked the Principal Secretary of the Finance Department to specify up to which date DA installments—aligned with central government patterns—have been released to All India Service officers and members of the judiciary.
Additionally, the court has sought clarity on whether the salaries and allowances of these officers are being disbursed from the same consolidated fund used for other state employees.
The bench also directed the state to explain if any DA installments remain pending for government employees for the period between July 1, 2023, and July 1, 2025.
The court made it clear that failure to submit the affidavit by April 1 would require the Principal Secretary to appear in person, underlining the seriousness of the issue.
