Punjab & Haryana High Court declares special leave for staff for MC Poll voting

Chandigarh, May 24, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted special casual leave on May 26, 2026, to its officers and officials who are registered voters in Punjab’s Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats where elections are scheduled to be held.
As per an office order issued by the High Court, Hon’ble the Chief Justice approved the leave to enable eligible employees to cast their votes in the local body elections. The leave will be granted upon production of voter identity cards before the competent authority.
The order follows the notification issued by the Punjab State Election Commission regarding the conduct of general elections for various Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats across the state.
According to the election schedule, polling will take place on May 26 from 8 AM to 5 PM, while counting of votes will be held on May 29. The entire election process is scheduled to conclude by June 1, 2026.
The nomination process for candidates began on May 13 and concluded on May 16, while scrutiny of nominations was conducted on May 18. The last date for withdrawal of candidature was May 19.
The State Election Commission has also enforced the Model Code of Conduct in the concerned civic body areas with immediate effect until completion of the polling process.
