NRI Commission: Former Judge Appointed New Chairman of Punjab State Commission for NRIs

Justice (Retd.) Sureshwar Thakur has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Punjab State Commission for NRIs. The appointment was formally notified via a government notification dated May 27, 2025, and approved by the Governor of Punjab.
A seasoned jurist with years of experience in the Indian judiciary, Justice Thakur is known for his balanced approach and integrity. His appointment is being welcomed widely in legal and NRI circles, with hopes that his leadership will strengthen the state’s outreach and support for the Punjabi diaspora.
The Punjab State Commission for NRIs addresses issues and grievances of Punjabis living abroad and plays a key advisory role in shaping diaspora policies.
