Chandigarh, March 10, 2026: To mark International Women’s Day, special events were organised across districts in Punjab to honour women Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for their dedication in strengthening the electoral process at the grassroots level.
At the district level, the top three women BLOs from each Assembly constituency were felicitated by the respective Deputy Commissioners-cum-District Election Officers for their exemplary service and contribution to the revision and purification of electoral rolls.
The ceremonies recognised the crucial role played by BLOs, who serve as an important link between the Election Commission of India and voters.
Highlighting the role of women in the electoral system, Anindita Mitra, Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, said women BLOs form a strong and dependable force within the electoral machinery.
“Women Booth Level Officers represent a robust and dependable force within our electoral machinery. Their dedication, sincerity and strong connection with communities help strengthen the foundations of our democratic processes,” she said, adding that their work plays a key role in ensuring free, fair and inclusive elections.
Mitra also highlighted technology-driven initiatives introduced to improve voter services, including the “Book a Call” facility that allows citizens to seek assistance related to electoral services and ECINet, a unified digital platform integrating multiple election-related mobile applications into a single interface.
The felicitation ceremonies were organised as a tribute to the dedication and professionalism of women BLOs across the state, acknowledging their contribution in enhancing democratic participation and supporting an efficient and responsive electoral system.
