Mohali (Punjab), September 7, 2025: Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Gagandeep Gupta organised a free orthopaedic health check-up and awareness camp at Amcare Super Speciality Hospital, where dozens of patients suffering from knee arthritis and mobility issues consulted him for relief.
Speaking on the sidelines of the camp, Dr. Gupta highlighted the growing burden of knee arthritis due to lifestyle changes. “Sedentary habits like long sitting hours and excessive mobile phone use are significantly increasing knee arthritis. Damaged knees then restrict movement, creating a vicious cycle of obesity, diabetes, and hypertension, leading to further loss of quality of life,” he said.
Dr. Gupta emphasised that robotic arm knee resurfacing has transformed the treatment of knee problems, offering smaller incisions, precision implant positioning, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery. “This advancement allows patients to return to independent living sooner and with greater comfort,” he noted.
The camp also aimed to dispel myths around knee surgery. Patients were educated about innovations like 3D-printed customised knee implants, which improve comfort and outcomes. Dr. Gupta said, “Our mission is to show people that robotics and 3D printing have made joint surgeries safer, quicker, and highly effective.”
Adding a personal touch, several former patients shared their recovery journeys:
- Saroj (name changed), from Karnal, who once weighed 105 kg and was hesitant about surgery, now walks an hour daily without pain just three months post-surgery.
- Charan Singh (name changed), 83, from Patiala, underwent knee resurfacing in 2021 and four years later remains active, even driving and climbing stairs comfortably.
- Devinder Kaur, from Narwana, regained normal walking after surgery, overcoming both knee deformities and related spine problems that once threatened to limit her mobility.
Dr. Gupta urged patients not to rely on misleading online searches or hearsay, but instead to consult orthopaedic experts for proper guidance. “Timely treatment can prevent deterioration and restore quality of life,” he stressed.
