Union Minister Choudhary vows transparent relief distribution
Rana Sodhi seeks flood relief via Aadhaar or Sarpanch verification for farmers without girdawari
Ferozepur, September 14, 2025: Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Raj Bhushan Choudhary, visited flood-hit areas along the Sutlej River in Ferozepur, accompanied by former Minister and BJP leader Rana Sodhi, to assess the devastation and interact with affected residents.
Choudhary underlined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concern for Punjab, recalling his aerial survey and sanctioning ₹1,600 crore in relief. He also asked the Punjab government to be made accountable for the misuse of disaster management funds of Rs.. 12,000 crore. He assured transparency in aid distribution, with BJP workers monitoring alongside officials to ensure supplies reach genuine beneficiaries.
Choudhary also questioned the Punjab government’s handling of disaster funds and called for accountability. The visit signaled the Centre’s commitment to rehabilitation with a pledge of transparent and inclusive relief distribution.
Responding to complaints of compensation delays for farmers lacking official girdawari records, Rana Sodhi strongly advocated for alternative mechanisms. He suggested that beneficiaries be identified either through Aadhaar cards or certified by local sarpanches, so that long-standing cultivators are not denied relief.
The visit marks a significant step in the Centre’s commitment to rehabilitating Punjab’s flood victims and ensuring transparency in relief operations.
