Young lady doctor found dead in hospital quarters; Suicide suspected

Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab), May 3, 2026: In a tragic incident, a young lady doctor posted at the Civil Hospital in Fatehgarh Sahib was found dead after allegedly dying by suicide in her government accommodation within the hospital premises.
The deceased has been identified as Dr Riya, a native of Bathinda, who had recently completed her MBBS and joined the hospital around one-and-a-half months ago as a gynaecologist.
According to initial information, the incident took place inside the government quarters allotted to her in the hospital complex. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
Confirming the development, SHO Ashok Kumar said that police teams reached the scene promptly and initiated an investigation. Preliminary inquiry and interaction with hospital staff suggest that the doctor had been under mental stress over the past few days.
The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary, and the family members, residing in Bathinda, have been informed.
Police officials stated that the exact cause behind the incident will be ascertained after the post-mortem report and statements from the family. The untimely death of the young doctor has left hospital staff and locals in deep shock.
