Operation of trains possible only on clearance of rail tracks and platforms: DRM
Ferozepur, November 4, 2020: With the on-going farmers agitation against passing of three Farm Acts, the rail network has been totally disrupted in Punjab and its operation would only be possible if the railway tracks and platforms are completely vacated. The farmers however, allowed the movement of goods trains but despite this commitment, certain tracks were not cleared and movement of trains was stopped at certain places.
Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Aggarwal informed that the railway services were stopped from September 24 due to the agitation started by the farmers organizations.
However, after the announcement of the resumption of goods train service by the farmers organizations, on October 22-23, about 175 goods trains were run by the Ferozepur and Ambala divisions of the railway. During these two days it was found that there was an atmosphere of uncertainty by farmer organizations when at certain places Nabha, these were stopped, said DRM.
He said, during the operation of goods trains, their safety and security was not being ensured. During the operation of a goods train, when someone sees someone sitting on the loco pilot track or crowds around the track, it becomes difficult to operate the trains as they are likely to be life-threatening.
He told that the farmers' organizations are sitting on the track in Jandiala and at the stations of division and under these circumstances, it would not be possible to operate till the track and station are completely vacated and uncertain situation.
DRM however, thanked the farmers and various organizations that they have demonstrated in a peaceful manner. He however, appealed to them to vacate the railway track / stations completely so that the people of Punjab could be provided with better rail services. The movement the tracks are cleared, we can start the operation of trains after checking the safety measures, he added.
