Farmers’ Union block tracks in Amritsar: Train halted at Beas railway station, reached Amritsar on diversion via Tarn Taran
Amritsar, November 24, 2020: The train halted at Beas railway station by the farmers has been diverted and reached Amritsar.
The railway tracks had been cleared by the farmers for operation of freight and passenger trains in Punjab after more than two months. But the farmers in Amritsar continued their protest blocking the rail tracks.
Earlier, DC Amritsar had said, we had been having late hours meeting with the farmers and pursuing them to allow the operation of trains, in the interest of farmers and people of Punjab, for a fortnight. We have come in the early morning also at around 4 am to inform them that the train is halted at Phagwara.
He said, around 2,000 passengers were on board of the train and 427 passengers of Amritsar including students. I am talking with the DRM also and in the meantime, we are planning to take the students in Amritsar in buses up to railway station so that relatives could receive them, to who they might have informed of their arrival.
DC said, there is no intention of the administration and government neither to take any harsh steps in these sensitive circumstances nor to harass the farmer’s community. We have no problem to farmers’ agitation but there is a need to main the balance.
We will take any further decision after review of the situation from time to time, he added.
