AICTE extends admission cutoff date for Punjab Technical Colleges to December 31
Mohali, December 24, 2020 : AICTE has extended cutoff date of admissions for all engineering, diploma courses in Punjab to 31st December.
While addressing all college across the country in “Shiksha Utthan Samvad” organized jointly by Federation of Self Financing Technical Institutions (FSFTI) & Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) this announcement has been made by Dr. M.P Poonia, Vice Chairman, AICTE & Professor Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary, AICTE. Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, FSFTI; PUCA & Chairman, Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh was the moderator of this session.
It is to be mentioned that due to this decision, around four 400 technical colleges & thousands of students will be benefited who were seeking admissions but were helpless to take admission in various colleges of Punjab due to Farmers Protest & Rail Roko Andolan.
It is also worth mentioning that recently a delegation of PUCA met with AICTE officials in New Delhi under the leadership of Dr. Anshu Kataria, who urged AICTE that in view of Rail Roko Andolan & Farmers Protest the last date for admissions should be extended in Punjab.
Dr. M P Poonia while addressing all state representatives said that India churns out around 37 lakhs technical students every year and the critical issue lies with the employability of the graduates from various institutions. The biggest challenge is the infrastructure. Almost 50 per cent of hard infrastructure is not utilised in the country. India has a capacity of 37 lakh students in the technical institutes and only 20 lakh students get admission. Out of the admitted students, 13 lakh graduates and only 7 lakh of them get jobs, he said.
Prof. Rajive kumar said that the country lags far behind from other developed nation in terms of students who opt for higher technical education. The gross enrolment ratio of students in technical institutes in the country is 26% & AICTE aims to increase this percentage to 50% by 2035. We need to bring down the strong boundaries that we have put on the students to help them grow in their desired field. And for this AICTE is changing, hence the country is changing, he added. He also discussed the importance of new education policy which can be a solution with the Light but Tight concept.
RS Munirathinam (Tamil Nadu); KVK Rao (Andhra / Telangana); Professor Ramdas (Maharashtra); Dr. Arvind Agarwal (Rajasthan); K C Jain (Madhya Pradesh); Janak Khandelwal (Gujarat) & Bijoyananda Chowdhury (North-East) raised various issue of technical colleges to AICTE in this event. Various prominent educationists of Punjab including Rashpal S. Dhaliwal, CGC Landran, Jhanjheri; Davinder Singh Rimpy, Desh Bhagat, Moga; Dr. Mohit Mahajan, Golden Group, Gurdaspur, Ashwani Garg, SVIET, Banur & other state representatives from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, North East etc. participated.
