Tikri Border (Delhi), January 12 2021 - The Rohtak Bypass flyover of Bahadurgarh has turned into home for the farmers sitting at the Kisan morcha near Tikri Border here. The farmers have set-up all the necessary facilities just like their homes on the flyover, which was being used by a large number of commuters to travel Rohtak from the capital city.
The farmers have installed sand-made fireplaces (chulhas), fibre-made washrooms, urinals, shelter houses, medical camps and water tanks for their own regular use. The farmers even grown vegetables here including onion, garlic, coriander and spinach for using them in 'Langar'. Several thousand farmers are staying at this flyover and the whole flyover has been occupied by their tractor-trolleys and tents. Now, farmers can be seen here making chapattis on their fireplaces, installed on the divider. Fibre-made makeshift washrooms are being used by the women. The urinals installed on the flyover boundaries are also being used by the farmers. For cleanliness and sanitation purpose, some farmers have also put big plastic bags alongside the road for collection of daily waste. Few shelter houses having capacity of 25-30 people are also being set-up by the farmers on the flyover.
Gurinder Singh (40), a resident of Sadharanpur village in Patiala distict, who organises tea and 'roti' Langar for the needy farmers daily said they have grown the vegetables on a sand-filled plate so that it can be used for the Langar purpose. He said they have made the flyover just like their house and they have overcome all the survival problems now. "We starts tea -langar everyday around 4 am when the farmers in trains from Bathinda and Ferozepur reaches here. After that we starts 'roti-langar' and water bottles distribution for the farmers. Along with this, we also donates footwear, medicine, blankets and tarpaulins for the farmers," said Gurjinder Singh while adding that "we started the sewa when we reached here and we had a collection of just Rs 17,000. But with the blessings of Baba Nanak, we have now enough collection of everything as our NRI friends and villagers are supporting us. We started the practice as there was less supply of milk and water for the flyover farmers."
Speaking about the controversial three agriculture ordinances, Gurjinder added that these laws are the death warrants of farmers which will ruin their lives. He also said they will ready to die if the Modi government not repeal these laws.
