Mayanik Foundation dedicates ‘Lohri’ to theme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’
Ferozepur, January 13, 2021: As a part of the mission ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’, Ferozepur- based social welfare organisation Mayank Foundation, celebrated Lohri festival with the students and staff of Government High School, Jhoke Hari Har with fanfare and gaiety here today. A cultural programme dedicated to the theme of saving and educating girls was organised during the occasion.
District Program Officer Rattandeep Kaur Sidhu, the chief guest during the celebration and the school head Avtar Singh dwelt upon the need of establishing a strong and progressive society, which is possible only if the women are liberated and empowered. They also dwelt upon the cultural, social and historical perspectives of the festival Lohri.
Dr Tanjit Singh Bedi and Deepak Naurla while conducting the programme called upon the students to imbibe liberal ideas and they said that the festival holds a special significance for the girls. Folk songs of Lohri by the students Arti and Sophia were the cynosure of the festivity.
A large bonfire was lit and sweets and eatables were served amongst the students, staff and the dignitaries to mark the celebration. Stationary was also distributed among the girls who participated in the function.
Village Sarpanch Malkit Singh Sandhu, Chairman Nirmal Singh Sandhu, Gurbinder Singh, Sukhdev Singh Sandhu, Gurmeet Singh Uppal and the members of the foundation namely Rakesh Kumar, Rajiv Setia, Deepak Grover, Deepak Gupta, Aseem Aggarwal and Ashwani Sharma were also present during the occasion.
