Man died in road mishap after killing his wife

A shocking incident took place here during the wee hours of today when a 35-year-old man, who was fleeing in his car after murdering his wife, died in a road mishap.
According to the police, the murderer, Waris Qamruddin was staying in a rented accommodation at Sunny Enclave, Sector 125 here with his wife, Varsha Chauhan (34). On the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, the couple had a dispute following heated arguments. The dispute turned so violent that Waris attacked his wife with knives and scissors on her neck and head multiple times until she died. After that Waris locked his wife inside the washroom and fled from the house in his Renault Duster. But on reaching near Sarangpur village in Chandigarh, the overspeeding Duster rammed into a truck at around 4 am resulting in the death of Waris. He was rushed to GMSH, Sector 16, where the doctors declared him dead.
Mohali SP (rural) Ravjot Kaur Grewal said, “A call was made to the police control room by the owner of the couple’s house, Ruchi Dogra, who informed that the floor of Waris’s house was found covered with blood and the things were found scattered inside it. A team of Kharar city police station reached the spot and investigated the whole matter. The body of Varsha was recovered from the washroom and sent to the mortuary of the civil hospital in Kharar.” The SP also added that the couple hailed from Bhopal and had a love marriage three years ago. Waris lost his job amid covid-19 and was all set to move Europe with Varsha on February 16 for which the couple had also booked their tickets.
Waris worked as a consultant in Gurugram, but after losing his job, he moved to Kharar around a month ago with his wife, said the police. Kharar city SHO Inspector Daljit Singh Gill said, “On the statement of Ruchi Dogra, we have registered a case of murder against Waris. The families of the couple have been informed.”
