Mohali, February 9, 2021:
Mohali ex-mayor and Azad Group's head, Kulwant Singh today addressed media at Mohali Press Club here. Kulwant Singh said that the Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) elections are approaching closer and their preparations are in full swing.
Sharing his experience of being the first mayor of Mohali, he said, "Initially, it was not easy to make planning for this city. But after the start of my tenure, we started developing city with a team work and around Rs 300 crore was spent on several development works here. The main focus was laid on sewage pipeline, which was earlier in very pathetic condition. But with our efforts, the tenders were floated and the construction work of sewage pipeline is underway now. When it gets completed, there is no need to change the pipeline of the city for coming 100 years."
He added, "In addition to this, we focused on water supply, construction of city roads and street lights in public places. Mohali is among a few cities of India, which has street lights in almost every part."
The former mayor slammed health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu and said, "Sidhu had stopped around 200 tenders of the house, which created big hindrance in Mohali’s development. It is shameful that the minister is putting foundation stones of his name on the projects started and completed by corporation. Balbir Sidhu wasted huge money on foundation stones. Unfortunately, the district hospital of Mohali is in pathetic condition despite the health minister is the MLA of Mohali" while adding that "Sidhu did not do anything for the city in the past four years and now only eight months of his tenure are remaining."
He said even their major projects of tree pruning machine, public transport and gas pipeline in Mohali were stopped by Sidhu.
Kulwant Singh said the Azad Group has a report of its own development works for seeking votes this time. "We put our 100 per cent efforts for the residents of city. Almost, every development work has been completed. Now if we get a chance, our focus will be on its cleanliness and beautification of city. Our aim is to make Mohali a 'pollution free' city with international standards."
The Azad Group will release its election manifesto for MC polls on Wednesday, said the former mayor.
