Mohali police keep vigil eye on vehicle movements

The district police have tightened the security in Mohali in view of the upcoming Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, and Nagar Panchayat elections. Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Satinder Singh informed today about various arrangements made by the police department regarding the peaceful conduct of these elections.
He informed that vehicles moving in and out of the district are being properly checked by police personnel deployed at various checkpoints. The cops have been briefed specifically to keep a check on illegal cash, liquor, and other prohibited items during checking of vehicles. Force deployed at inter-state checkpoints has been strengthened and briefed to carry out rigorous checks on prohibited items being smuggled in or out of state.
The SSP also informed that adequate security arrangements have been for canvassing as well as contesting candidates. All necessary steps have been taken to ensure law and order during the election campaign. Coordination is also being maintained on a routine basis with civil administration and candidates of various political parties in this regard.
Adequate security arrangements have been done at polling stations and polling booths to maintain peace. According to rule number 98 of Punjab Election Rules 1994, convening and public gathering will not be allowed during a period of 48 hours before elections, and guidelines of the election commission will be followed regarding outsiders going in and out of the district. Unauthorized people will not be allowed in the vicinity of the polling stations, said the SSP.
