Mohali, February 11, 2021:
Four BJP candidates including three women today alleged Congress for organizing continuous attacks on their party amid Municipal Corporation elections here.
Madan Shaunki, a candidate for Mohali MC elections from ward number 50, said, "Around 25-30 persons including women yesterday attacked on me and my companions with sticks when we were campaigning in Phase 1."
He said, when he was campaigning near the HE quarters, 5-6 persons including women arrived there and chanted slogans against them. In the meantime, around 25 persons joined them, who were having Kisan flags in their hands. They hurled abuses on them and thrashed him with sticks and slippers, he said. "I hardly managed to escape from them and took an auto from the main road to save my life. They would have killed me if I did not flee from there, said Madan while adding that "I was able to identify few persons. Jaspal Kaur and Charanjit Singh Channi were among them, who are Congress supporters."
Madan said he is unable to come out of his house as his life is in danger and he cannot campaign for his first elections following the on-going attacks. He said a complaint in this regard was submitted to Mohali DSP (city 1) and Station House Officer of Phase 1 police station. "The attackers were not the farmers, as a farmer cannot beat anybody like this. They were Congress goons. The police have ensured me to provide a PCR vehicle in my locality," said Madan.
Kulwinder Kaur, who is contesting from ward number 49 also alleged the Congress for attacking her children on Wednesday.
She said, "Yesterday, I was not present at my house. Meanwhile, many men and women entered my house and threatened my children. They abused my daughter and also torn the banners of our party. On getting the information, I rushed to my house and shocked to see my children crying. A complaint was submitted to the police."
Kulwinder Kaur, a candidate from ward number 49, Rekha from ward number 43 and Advocate Rupinder Kamal from ward number 5, were also present in this press conference.
