One held for stealing jewellery worth Rs 17 lakh and Rs 60k cash from doctor’s house

Balongi police have arrested a man, who stole gold jewellery worth Rs 17 lakh and Rs 60,000 cash from a doctor's house in ATS Casa Espana, Sector 121 here.
The accused has been identified as Johnny, a resident of Balongi. Johnny was working here as a painter.
The incident of theft occurred on February 8, when the complainant Harpreet Kaur, a doctor in Fortis Hospital here, was not present at her house. Dr Harpreet Kaur submitted her complaint to the police that on the day of the incidenta, she had left her house at 10.30 am for the duty and on returning home at around 7.30 pm, she found the servant room’s door latch was broken. On entering inside, she noticed that cash and jewellery items were missing from her house.
The police have nabbed the accused within 75 hours of the incident and made a recovery from his possession too.
Inspector Sarabjit Singh, Station House Officer of Balongi police station said, “On interrogating the accused, he confessed that he had painted the flat of Dr Harpreet Kaur around five months ago and had also obtained all the information about them. He knew that the house remains locked throughout the day due to which he decided to carry out theft. Johnny had cleverly escaped from the CCTV footage. To a large extent, we have recovered the stolen items and the pending items will be recovered soon.”
The accused will be produced in a local court on Saturday, said the police.
