Chandigarh, February 19, 2021:
In contradiction to Narendra Singh Tomar’s statement, the Punjab BJP president, Ashwani Sharma today claimed that the break-up of the SAD-BJP alliance played no role in the defeat of BJP in the civic body polls.
The Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar recently reacted to the civic body results by saying that the party was weak in Punjab following its break-up with the Akali Dal. He had said that the party was contesting the polls independently for the first time which was the reason behind their defeat in the civic body polls. Farmers’ agitation has no link with the results of these elections, Tomar had stated.
Today, Ashwani Sharma while addressing the media in a press conference here said that BJP lost the elections only because Congress hijacked the elections. “We see no impact of SAD-BJP break-up on the fresh results. Our party has become stronger than earlier as we had landed 1049 candidates from every seat in these elections. During our alliance with Akali Dal, we used to contest elections in the state with only a few candidates. The reason behind our defeat is the conspiracy of Congress to defame the BJP. Firstly, they organized attacks on our workers to spread terror. Then, they captured the polling booths in many areas to cast bogus votes,” said Ashwani Sharma.
He also claimed that the party was capable enough to fight and win the upcoming assembly elections of 2022. “Till the previous assembly elections, we used to contest from 20-30 percent of the total seats. This time, we will contest from all the 117 seats,” said the state president of BJP.
