Mohali, March 2, 2021:
As the covid-19 vaccination drive enters the third phase in the state, more than 9,000 beneficiaries have been vaccinated so far in the Mohali district only.
In the new phase, senior citizens (above 60-year-old) and people aged between 45-60 have specified comorbidities being vaccinated in different hospitals (government and private) of the district. Before that, the healthcare workers and frontline workers were given vaccine (UK based Covishield) in the first and second phase, respectively.
According to the information obtained from the health department of Mohali, 5,592 healthcare workers were given the first dose of vaccine, out of which 2,168 have also been vaccinated with the second dose. If it comes to frontline workers, 3,655 people have been vaccinated so far. The third phase, started yesterday, has provided vaccine to 79 senior citizens and four persons of the age group 45-60 with comorbidities on the first day. As per the figures, 300-400 persons are getting vaccine each day here.
Mohali civil surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur said that the first phase of the vaccine started on January 16, in which healthcare workers (registered doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, etc.) were chosen as beneficiaries for the covid-19 vaccine. The next phase started on February 2, in which the vaccine dose was given to the frontline workers (police personnel, revenue department employees, panchayat members, etc.). The second dose for already vaccinated ones started on February 15. “The record of each day is being maintained by the health department. We are following the guidelines of the Punjab government throughout the whole vaccination drive,” said Dr Adarshpal Kaur.
After showing the identity proofs and completing their spot registration in the hospital, the beneficiaries can get the vaccine. The beneficiaries can also get them registered online and schedule their appointment. The vaccinated persons are being advised to follow precautions in case of any problem. In case of pain, they are asked to apply ice cold compression and consume a paracetamol (650 mg) tablet. The beneficiaries are also provided with a helpline number and a number of their vaccinator in case of any query.
The civil surgeon appealed to the residents to get them vaccinated for their own and others’ safety.
Talking about the current situation of covid-19 in the district, she said, “The district saw a small surge in covid-19 cases in the last couple of days. However, the numbers are not increasing alarmingly. People must follow the proper precautions as the infection is still there. People should avoid social gatherings and unnecessary travel.”
