6-year-old girl found dead in UT area: one juvenile held on murder and kidnapping charge

Chandigarh, March 6, 2021:
Chandigarh police arrested a 12-year-old boy for allegedly murdering a six-year-old girl after kidnapping her.
The shocking incident came to light on Saturday morning at around 7 am when the victim's dead body was spotted near the forest area behind the cremation ground of Hallomajra here. During the preliminary investigation, it was also suspected by the police that the girl was raped. Still, it will be clear only after conducting her medical examination, said the police.
As per the information, the victim was missing from her home since Friday evening. Her parents had even submitted a missing report to the UT police in this regard.
This morning, the dead body of the victim was seen by some passers-by, following which the police reached the spot and recovered the body. The victim was declared brought dead by the doctors of Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. The victim's dead body has been kept in the mortuary of GMCH, Sector 32, where her postmortem and medical examination will be conducted.
Inspector Narinder Singh, SHO of Sector 31 police station, said, "The police have apprehended a 12-year-old boy, who is a neighbour of the victim, in this connection. A case under Sections 302 and 363 of the IPC has been registered against him. The rape charge will be confirmed only after examining the medical reports of the victim. The investigation is on by the crime branch."
Roadblock at Hallomajra chowk by the victim's kin:
Many people today protested against the UT police at the traffic lights of Hallomajra here by blocking the chowk. The protest continued throughout the day. The people, including the victim's kin, demanded the arrest of the real culprits behind the heinous crime. Due to the roadblock, the commuters traveling to and from Chandigarh, had a tough time as traffic congestion was witnessed for hours. The police have now lifted the protest.
