Five ventilators to be installed at Civil Hospital Mohali
Mohali, May 3, 2021:
Making the optimum use of utilization of available resources District Administration has ordered installation of five ventilators in the Civil Hospital in Phase 6 here and making available at least fifteen ventilators for the upcoming 104 bedded makeshift COVID Hospital at Mohali while 12 others will be installed at another 100 bedded facility being created in the District with the support of Army informed said Deputy Commissioner, Girish Dayalan. He added that the latter will be operational in about twenty days.
Pertinently, the Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences, Mohali received 32 ventilators under PM-CARES but the installation remained pending due to unavailability of oxygen generation plant and paucity of technical manpower. The ventilators also need some software up-gradation for which technician from BHEL has been contacted. “We are working on war footing; appointment letters have been issued to the faculty to ensure human resources in place; while the faculty joins, arrangements are being made for setting up oxygen generation plant to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply to the institute. We are well aware that the health facilities in the district are overwhelming by the sudden surge in COVID cases. So, we are trying our best to meet the manpower and the equipment challenge and will hopefully get a go ahead as soon as the team of National Medical Council conducts the inspection of the facility,” said Dr. Bhavneet Bharti, Director Principal of the upcoming Dr BR Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences.
In the meanwhile, in order to further ramp up the existing health infrastructure and create more hospital beds for the critical patients battling the devastating second COVID wave, the State Government has in principle approved setting up of a makeshift hospital in Mohali, equipped with ICU facilities exclusively for COVID patients. Medical Education and Research Department has been directed to make functional the new hospital by the end of this month to ensure the best possible healthcare to the COVID patients as per the mandate of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
