Four held with 140 boxes of illicit liquor in Mohali

Mohali, May 4, 2021:
A team of Mohali police and Excise department arrested four persons, transporting around 140 boxes of illicit liquor in four cars on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Lovekaran Singh, Daman Grewal, Munish Sabharwal and Ramandeep Singh.
Sub Inspector Shivi Brar, Station House Officer of Phase 1 police station said that acting on a tip-off, a joint naka was laid at the PTL Chowk here by the team of Phase 1 police and Excise department for checking of vehicles. Meanwhile, four cars driven by four youth arrived there and on searching the vehicles, the cops recovered a total of nearly 140 boxes of whisky, made for sale in UT only, from the cars.
“The liquor was recovered and the accused were nabbed on the spot. Their cars - two Hyundai Xcent, a Toyota Innova and a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga were also impounded. They confessed before the police that they used to smuggle the liquor in Ludhiana area at higher prices. A case has been registered against them under relevant Sections of the Excise Act. They will be produced before the court on Wednesday,” said the SHO.
