How students can overcome the impact of COVID? Tells Himanshu Jha
Patiala, May 7, 2021: The raging COVID-19 has impacted everyone including the students who are now adapting to the new age of online study amid the uncertainty over offline or online classes or exams.
At the time when social media is constantly striking us with information or updates on COVID-19 from various parts of the world, this can be overwhelming for the school or college-going students who are just trying to get through a session that has now gone virtual.
Himanshu Jha, Director, Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation has some tips for the students for overcoming the impact of COVID-19 on their physical and emotional well-being.
In an online interaction with students from different colleges, Jha until the havoc that people are witnessing currently due to the second phase of COVID-19 is controlled, we should learn how to adjust our lives accordingly with the hope that "this too shall pass".
"This is something that has never happened in my known history and is a big example of the impact of COVID-19 on students’ life. No one ever realized that such a microscopic size organism can be the reason for thousands of deaths. In 2021, we are going through just another such phase, and as one famous philosopher has said, “this too shall pass”, The havoc created by the COVID-19 will be controlled one day. Till that time this happens, we will have to adjust our lives according to it. At the moment, it is difficult to ascertain the whole impact of COVID-19 on students’ life, as we are still going through it and new problems are cropping up with each passing day," said Himanshu Jha while interacting with the students.
He further asked the students not to get overwhelmed by the information overload about COVID-19 on social media.
"In this age of social media liberty where information spread faster than the speed of sound, things look much bigger than they are. A long-lasting impact has been created by the notorious COVID-19 from which it will take many years to recover. The education industry has not been left out and the impact of COVID-19 on student life is visible. Various measures have been taken by the Government of Punjab under the leadership of CM Captain Amarinder Singh, to enable education to flow smoothly. Some exams were left as the examination council decided to declare board results based on the performance of students in the school, nullifying the need to conduct the exams that were left," he informed.
He also praised the Captain Amarinder-led state government smart phone scheme. He expressed that the scheme has proven to be beneficial for many students belonging to economically weaker sections.
"There is a large section of children who go to government schools and colleges, and their parents are not in a position to buy them such things so they can attend online classes. The smartphone scheme is very beneficial to these families," he added.
Students need to show discipline towards life & study
Himanshu expressed that though the theoretical material will be imparted on time to students, the overall development of students will be missing here. He stressed that it will be impossible to inculcate the habit of discipline and decorum among students and there that there is a need for the students to be self-disciplined.
"Students will have to show discipline towards their life and their study as there is no one to check on them, only then they can think of getting the best from this troubled time. The life and future of these students are left in the doldrums and there are no indications as to when things will return to normal. These children are left with no other option but to brave the threat of COVID-19 and attend their classes or stay at home. We need to stay motivated at all times and keep making efforts in the right direction while maintaining utmost precautions at all times. First is the good health of everyone and second comes good education," he added at last.
