Seeing the grim situation in India of the rising death toll everyday due to Coronavirus, IIT Ropar and Cheema Boilers Ltd. collaborated to help the Nation during this tough time. As a noble effort, IIT Ropar and Cheema Boilers have developed Eco-Friendly traditional cremation technology. As the Supreme Court in 2016 suggested the modernization of crematoria across the country as part of the efforts to check the rising air pollution that has gone much beyond the danger mark in several cities and towns posing serious health problems. At that time, nobody had ever thought that such an alarming need of crematoriums would be required in future.
The institutes stated that in the present time, when we are facing this pandemic and the death toll is soaring, the final journey of the human being is compromised. Alarming need of wood these days adds to the fuel-intensive nature of the funeral rites, not only adding woes to the family but also the space crunch in crematoriums is allowing them to compromise the final rites of the deceased.
Answering the call of nature towards environment friendly disposal of the dead, the technology developed is based on Wick Stove, in which the wick when lighted glows yellow and this is converted into smokeless blue flame after installing the combustion air system over these wicks. The cart has wheels and can be transported anywhere without much effort. There are stainless steel trays on both sides for easy ash removable. The cart is equipped with combustion air for primary and secondary hot air systems. The disposal is completed within 12 hours including cooling as against 48 hours. It requires less cooling time as no refractory heat storage. It works on temperatures above 1000°C that ensures complete sterilization. It has stainless steel insulation on both sides of the cart for no heat loss and less wood consumption.
