Honeymoon phase turns tragic for newly married NRI

Things turned tragic for the couple on their honeymoon when COVID decided to give them life-long despair. A 29-year-old NRI man, who had come to Himachal Pradesh with his wife for the honeymoon, died of COVID-19 in Mohali’s IVY Hospital on Thursday. The deceased, Shivank Bajpayee, was in Himachal Pradesh for the last couple of days. From Himachal, the couple came to Chandigarh and was staying in a hotel, where he fell sick. After that, he was admitted to the IVY Hospital and was tested COVID positive later.
As per the information, Shivank was a native of Kanpur and was staying in the US for the past couple of years. He was working there in a well-reputed company in California. Around a month back, he came to India and got married. After that, he went to Himachal Pradesh with his wife for their honeymoon. Shivank was staying in a hotel of Chandigarh after returning from Himachal and on falling sick, he got himself admitted at the IVY Hospital. His family also came from Kanpur and was staying in a hotel of Mohali.
The deceased’s mother, Nilima Bajpayee said that Shivank was admitted in the isolation ward on Sunday. She said her son was totally fine and was recovering too as informed by the hospital staff. On Wednesday late night, they received a call from the hospital that Shivank’s health was critical. Next morning, when they reached hospital to meet Shivank, they came to know that he had died, said Nilima Bajpayee.
After his death, the family of Shivank lost temper and started blaming the hospital authorities for killing him. On seeing the situation, the authorities called the police. A team of Mataur SHO Manphul Singh rushed to the spot and tried to settle the situation.
Nilima Bajpayee had also submitted a written complaint to the Mataur police and demanded strict action against the hospital authorities for causing the death of her son due to negligence. But later, the family compromised with the hospital authorities.
Inspector Manphul Singh, SHO of Mataur police station said, “We had received a complaint from the deceased’s mother demanding action against the hospital authorities after the death of Shivank. But later, both the parties compromised and the complaint was withdrawn by the family. They also took the dead body of the deceased for performing his final rites.”
