Mohali, May 14, 2021:
A day after the Punjab CM issued 'Hunger Helpline' numbers for delivery of free cooked meals at the doorstep of poor and underprivileged COVID patients, Mohali police delivered nearly 400 food packets on Friday.
Starting this noble cause through a special kitchen from Sohana police station here, SP (city) Harvinder Singh Virk addressed media persons and informed them that the police will provide free meals to needy COVID patients.
“We have set-up a modular kitchen in Sohana police station, where fully hygienic and healthy food will be cooked for the needy patients. The food will be nutritious as per the recommendations of the health department. After cooking the food, our teams will pack them and send them directly to houses of COVID patients,” said Harvinder Singh Virk.
He added that two helpline numbers - 181 and 112 have been issued by the CM and the needy patients can call on these numbers.
DSP (Headquarter) Ramandeep Singh has been appointed as nodal officer and he will manage all the calls in this regard, said the SP.
Other than Mohali city, teams of Dhakoli and Zirakpur police led by SP (rural) Ravjot Kaur Grewal also distributed food packets to the COVID patients in Dera Bassi sub division.
DSP Ramandeep Singh said, “We delivered around 400 packets to COVID patients. On the first day, we did not receive many calls but the food was delivered after taking the records of COVID patients from the health department.”
