Sidhu challenges CaptCamp's claim, confirms party high command intervention
Chandigarh, May 22, 2021: Senior Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturday challenged Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and his camps' claim that he wanted important positions in cabinet and party and demanded the post of deputy chief minister and portfolio of home department, Punjab.He claied that he never asked for any such position rather he refused the offers of joining cabinet more than once.
He also confirmed that the high command intervention in the ongoing tussle going on in Punjab Congress. He said he will wait the outcome this exercise.
In the video post on Twitter on Saturday, Sidhu said that though he was invited offered a cabinet berth on many occasions he did not accept it.
“All I seek is Punjab’s prosperity!! Was invited & offered Cabinet berths many times but I did not accept Now, Our Esteemed High Command has intervened, Will wait...,” Sidhu posted.
It is worth mentioning that CM Captain Amarinder Singh in a video interview had said that Sidhu wanted to be Deputy CM and portfolio of Home department which was not possible.
Senior Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu asked to show proof if he even had a single meeting with another party leader and made a demand for any post.
In the video clip of a media interaction, Sidhu asked people to name even a single leader who gave up for his esteemed post of MP and ministry just for the cause of Punjab.
He also pointed out the instance where he was accused of nepotism when his son Karan Singh Sidhu was appointed as Assistant Advocate General by the Congress-led Punjab government. Following the incident, Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu did not join as chairperson of Punjab Warehousing Corporation.
“You think people have just elected him six times without any reason. All the allegations against me of seeking berth need to be proven,” he added.
His posts come few days after many Punjab ministers including Balbir Sidhu, Vijay Inder Singla, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, and Gurpreet Singh Kangar demanded strong disciplinary action by the party high command.
The minister alleged that Sidhu has an alliance with state opposition parties, such as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) or Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
