Martyrs of June 1984 Ghallughara are a wealth of Sikh community: Bibi Jagir Kaur
SGPC to provide free education to children who lost parents to COVID-19, farmers who died during farmers’ movement

The Sikhs including men, women and children who got martyred during June 1984 Ghallughara (holocaust) are wealth of the Sikh community, as they sacrificed their lives in light of the community’s sentiments to protect the sanctity of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Harmandar Sahib. This was stated by (SGPC) President Bibi Jagir Kaur.
SGPC President was talking to media at a press conference at the SGPC office organized after the observing anniversary to remember the martyrs of the June 1984 holocaust.
“The gurdwaras are the source of devotion and strength for the Sikhs but it is extremely sad that in June 1984, the Congress government of India gave psychological and unbearable wounds to the Sikh world by attacking Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Harmandar Sahib along with 37 other gurdwaras”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.
While offering tributes to the martyrs, she thanked the devotees and representatives of different Sikh organizations who attended the ceremony on the day and urged the community to be supportive in the works to preserve Sikh history and heritage.
“The work of gallery being constructed in the memory of martyrs of June 1984 will be completed very soon and efforts will be made to make public the relics and evidence related to the holocaust. On the demand of the devotees, the injured holy saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib would be made public from time to time”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.
Answering a query, Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The white paper published by SGPC with regards to June 1984 Army attack will be published again and instructions have been given for the same.”
Meanwhile, Bibi Jagir Kaur announced, “The SGPC will provide free education to children who have lost their parents due to COVID-19 pandemic. During this pandemic, many people have lost their lives who had limited sources of income. SGPC will make arrangements for providing education to the children of such families, so that, they can become self-reliant in their future.”
SGPC President also said, “Similarly, the SGPC will also provide free education to the children of farmers who have lost lives during the ongoing farmers’ protest. Earlier, the SGPC has provided aid of Rs 1 lakh each to the surviving family members of more than 160 farmers.”
Speaking about the rebellious soldiers who left barracks during June 1984, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the SGPC has provided aid to these “Dharmi Faujis” and in case, if any soldier is left without the aid then they should contact the SGPC.
On this occasion, SGPC executive committee member Satwinder Singh Tohra, Ajmer Singh Khera, Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, assistant secretary Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, Tejinder Singh Padda, superintendent Malkit Singh Beharwal, OSDs to SGPC president Dr Amrik Singh Latifpur and Dr Sukhbir Singh and others were present.
