Jalandhar DC inspects flood protection works worth Rs 7.51 crore in district
Conducts whirlwind tour of the flood prone areas of the district
Jalandhar, June 17, 2021:
In order to meet the challenge of any flood like situation due to the coming rainy season, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Ghanshyam Thori on Thursday inspected the flood prone areas of Jalandhar to oversee flood protection work worth Rs 7.51 crore.
The Deputy Commissioner who visited the flood prone areas of Shahkot sub division said that administration was duty bound to ensure that the vulnerable points were strengthened to ensure that there was no possibility of floods in the district. He said that massive strengthening work has already been embarked in the district adding that no stone would be left unturned for this noble cause. Thori categorically said that he was personally monitoring the day to day progress in the matter so that there was no callousness in the work.
The Deputy Commissioner said that there was no dearth of funds for this purpose and more resources along with the funds would be pumped in, if required, for protection of life and property of people from the floods. Thori said that the top priority was to ensure that the vulnerable points along with river Satluj were strengthened and plugged in at every cost to ensure that there was no loss to life and property of people. He said that the administration was firmly committed to ensure that no loss takes place due to floods in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the pace of ongoing work along the river Satluj adding that this work must be completed by the starting of next month. He also said that any sort of laxity in this work was totally unwarranted and undesirable. Thori said that he would periodically review the progress of this work to ensure that it was completed within the stipulated time period.
