Mohali, June 17, 2021:
The protest of contractual teachers of Punjab continued for the second day on Thursday in front of the Punjab School Education Board’ building in Phase 8 here. Two meetings were also held between the conveners of the umbrella body of non-permanent teachers and the government, but both the meetings failed to produce any output.
The non-permanent teachers are staging a huge dharna against the state government for demanding regularization of their jobs and enhancement in their salaries.
On Thursday, the teachers had a first meeting with Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla and Political Adviser to Chief Minister, Captain Sandeep Singh Sandhu in Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh. After that, another meeting was organized between the teachers and Education Secretary, Krishan Kumar at Mini Secretariat, Chandigarh.
Ajmer Singh Aulakh, one of the main representatives of the protesters, told Babushahi late Thursday night, “Our dharna is still on as the government has not fulfilled our primary demands after holding meetings with us today. After discussing with all the protesters, we have decided to continue our protest till our demands are not met.”
