SAD (Sanyukt) announces district-level dharnas across state against rampant inflation
Party to hand over memorandum to DCs on Thursday demanding decrease in prices
Chandigarh, July 11, 2021:
The Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) has announced to hold district-level protests and demonstrations across the state on 15th of July (Thursday) against the unnecessary hike in petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices. After this, the party would also hand over a memorandum to all the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) across the state for revoking these skyrocketing prices. Party’s Patron, Ranjit Singh Brahmpura and president Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa have appealed to the leaders and workers to join these protests in large numbers.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, party office secretary and spokesperson Maninderpal Singh Brar said that apart from the hike in petrol, diesel and cooking gas; the skyrocketing prices of home rations had also increased which had led to resentment among the people against the Centre and the State government. He said that no steps were taken to reduce the prices.
“It is unfortunate that on one hand the prices of LPG are being continuously increased and on the other the subsidy on domestic gas cylinders is being withheld. Thus the common man is being financially hit twice,” said Brar. He said that today the prices of food items and household items had gone up manifold; thus putting a huge burden on the people's financial position.
Brar further said that it was the duty of the government to control inflation. “The government which cannot control inflation is not pro-people and in the present scenario the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government has failed to tackle inflation and provide relief to the people,” he said. He said that in view of the growing public outrage over inflation, the party has decided to hold protests at the district-level across the state.
Apart from the party leaders and workers, the general public has also been urged to join the protest, he said. Brar said a demand was being made from the Punjab government to withdraw these hiked prices and excise duty should be reduced to relieve the people from rampant inflation; but the government turned a deaf ear to the demands and this was when the party under the leadership of Jathedar Ranjit Singh Brahmpura and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa decided to launch a massive protest against this inflation.
