Mohali police busts gambling & betting racket by arresting 9

Mohali, July 18, 2021:
Mohali police claimed to have busted a gambling and betting racket by arresting nine persons.
The illegal racket was being run from a house in Phase 3-A of Mohali, said the police. The police recovered Rs 6.5 lakh in cash, 20 mobile phones along with an equal number of SIM cards, one laptop, black suit and black bag from the possession of suspects.
The suspects have been identified as Gambhir Kumar resident of Modem colony Yamunanagar, Surjit Singh, resident of Phase 3A Mohali, Avinash Chander, resident of Gobind Nagar Abohar, Pitambar Bhatt, resident of Saini Vihar Phase 3 Baltana, Shankar Rajiv, resident of Karnal, Amar Singh, resident of Kajheri (Chandigarh), Sanjeev Kumar, resident of Karnal, Ishan Goyal, resident of Sharfa Bazaar Karnal, and Sunil Kumar, resident of Keshna colony, Yamunanagar.
Mohali Superintendent of Police (City) Harvinder Singh Virk informed that the suspects used to toss a dice to get the lucky number for a participant for deciding the gamble.
SP said, “Their entire networking system has been recovered by the police from their hideout for handling and operating gambling systems. The evidence of betting from the spot is being further consolidated. The system was even running online.”
Mohali Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gursher Singh said that Mataur police received information regarding some high profile sophisticated gambling activity being run from a house in Phase 3-A. Following the tip-off, the house was raided and the suspects were nabbed red-handed operating the gambling racket, said the DSP.
