Punjab Commissioner for PwDs held special court to speed up trials of complaints
Asks concerned departments to furnish details of delay in the promotions on next hearing on September 20
Chandigarh, September 15, 2021: To ensure a four percent reservation quota for the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in government jobs and promotions provided by the Punjab Government and to expedite trials of their complaints, the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Sumer Singh Gurjar held a special court, in which cases about PwD employees were listened to at length.
The State Commissioner, while directing the officers of the concerned department to implement the welfare schemes and facilities provided by the state government to these special persons in true spirit and ensured their recruitment strictly adhering to the policy, has asked the concerned officers of the five departments to appear at the next hearing on September 20, 2021, so that the cases could be resolved at the earliest.
During the hearing, five cases of the promotion of the PwD employees of various departments were heard.
After hearing all the cases, the Commissioner directed the concerned officials of the Health Department, Higher Education Department, Excise and Taxation Office Patiala, Secretary Zila Parishad Jalandhar, and IRB of Punjab Police to furnish details regarding a delay in the promotions on next hearing.
Gurjar said the Punjab government was committed to providing maximum employment opportunities to disabled persons. Apart from this, they are also being provided financial assistance of Rs.1500 per month, adding that the department of Social Security and Women and Child Development has adopted “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016” with effect from April 19, 2017, thus it is our utmost duty to provide the person with disabilities with their rights.
He further conveyed that District level Camps to sort out the problems being faced by Persons with Disabilities will also be organized shortly, besides sensitizing persons with disabilities about their rights and government welfare schemes.
