IJU expresses deep shock over death of Reporter in UP incident
Hyderabad, October 4, 2021:
The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) expressed deep shock and anguish over the death of Raman Kashyap, a news channel reporter in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in Uttar Pradesh yesterday where four farmers were killed.
The four farmers were part of an agitating group and killed in a run over incident involving a car in the convoy of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and BJP MP Ajay Kumar Mishra.
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha alleged that the Union Minister’s son was driving the car.
In a statement issued on Monday K. Sreenivas Reddy, President and Balwinder Singh Jammu, Secretary General of IJU demanded an independent inquiry into the shocking incident. The exact circumstances leading to the death of journalists and also the farmers must be established and justice must be given to them, they said.
The IJU leaders said the Union stands in solidarity with the reporter's family and also with the families of the farmers killed in this incident. They demanded an ex gratia payment of Rs. 50 lakhs to the family of the deceased journalist. Raman Kashyap was a member of Uttar Pradesh Sramajivi Patrakar, a constituent union of IJU.
