Punjab Assembly Polls: Know who wept over denying party ticket
Harish Monga
Ferozepur, January 26, 2022: Nomination of any candidate for the elections is prerogative of the High Command of the particular party to decide but weeping over denying ticket from Ferozepur Rural constituency to Satkar Kaur Gehri, MLA during the Assembly elections in Punjab to be held on February 20, is perhaps the first such incident in this election season.
On visiting Satkar Kaur Gehri’s house today where numbers of her supporters were present, Ladi Gehri, her husband, literally wept over denying the ticket for the Assembly elections 2022 from Ferozepur Rural.
Satkar Kaur Gehri who is sitting MLA from Ferozepur Rural won the 2017 Assembly elections from the Congress seat, by 21,380 votes, by securing 71037 votes while the runner-up candidate Joginder Singh Jindu SAD candidate got 49657 votes.
However, Satkar Kaur Gehri said, she will continue to remain in the Congress.
It is to be noted that former Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashu Banger quit his party to join the Congress on January 17.
The ticket for Ferozepur Rural has been given to Ashu Bangar who resigned after AAP gave him a ticket from the segment and joined the Congress.
Banger will now contest the Punjab Assembly election from the same seat but as a Congress candidate. The current Congress Member of Legislative Assembly from Ferozepur is Satkar Kaur.
