Chandigarh, May 14, 2022: The Kisan Hit Sangharash Committee, Punjab, an association of landowners/farmers has alleged infringement of the legal right of landowners in states' villages in the guise of removing illegal occupation of ‘panchayat’ lands by official machinery. The farmer union has sought a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on the matter.
"Unfortunately, for reasons that are best known to the official machinery of the government a highly publicized drive to remove these so called ‘encroachments’ has been initiated by brazenly violating the laws of the land and constitutional bench judgements of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. Since the judgement of Hon’ble Supreme Court dated 07.04.2022 some kind of an aggressive campaign of calumny and falsehoods are being propagated to deny our enjoyment and legal possession/ownership of our lands through brute force and propaganda.," stated Kisan Hit Sangharash Committee in the letter to CM.
The association requested the Chief Minister to meet thier delegation and deliberate on their demands so as to follow the law and not deprive them of their legal right to the said properties in the villages
"These lands are neither owned by the Panchayat nor the Government of Punjab. We will be constrained to peacefully agitate against the illegal acts of the official machinery who are attempting to forcibly remove the land owners from their lands. This is a brazen violation of the law and numerous constitutional bench judgments of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. In a majority of villages in Punjab such properties owned by the proprietors, such as the affected parties herein, have already been partitioned and ownership vests with the land owners. It is a brazen discrimination against the remaining village land owners. We are humbly requesting the Government of Punjab to remove all impediments in our legal and statutory rights and restore all our proprietary lands in each of the villages of Punjab so that we could continue with our ownership and cultivation of these properties," th Union added
